You’ve all seen her , except if you were born after the end of the Seventies. Dah !
Remember this beautiful face ? Estee Lauder ads ?
Karen Graham is the epitome of elegance and sophisticated classicism.
How I worshipped her ! I still have all her ads for Estee Lauder which I tore out L’Officiel, French Vogue, Joyce and the like.
Karen Graham had no intention whatsoever to become a model.
Life takes an unexpected turn when you least expect it ! Karen Graham was shopping in Bonwit Teller in Manhattan and fed up with waiting impatiently for the down elevator, she took the stairs instead, where she bumped into modeling agency owner Eileen Ford.
She started chatting with Mrs. Ford on the stairs, and by the time they were outside, Mrs. Ford handed Graham her card and suggested that she think about becoming a model. Because Graham had not found a teaching job yet and was working as a bookeepper, she decided to try modeling for a few years to make extra money to furnish her small apartment.
Her status as a legendary model was set, not only because from 1970 to 1975 she appeared 20 times on the best magazine's cover but also because of the Estee Lauder advertising campaign. She worked with Chicago photographer Victor Skrebneski and as incredible as may seem, but poeple thought SHE was Estee Laude herself.
So much class !
